The Damon Braces System is a remarkable technology that revolutionizes how our practice at East Lake Braces takes care of our patients. A major change and benefit with this system is what is referred to in orthodontics as “passive self ligation”. Ligation is simply the means by which a wire is placed or held into a brace.
Orthodontists use either self ligation, steel ligation (wire tie), or elastic ligation (rubber tie). Passive self ligation means we place a wire into your braces passively as compared to steel or rubber ligation. Ligation is the action whereby the steel or rubber pushes the wire used to move teeth into the brace. Self ligation refers to how Damon braces hold a wire within a brace. A sliding door opens and closes with Damon braces – this door is opened to put the wire inside, and is closed to hold the wire passively within the tube now formed, this allows teeth to easily slide to their correct position.
Traditional orthodontic treatment often requires appointments where tightening is required – wires placed and steel wires wrapped about the brackets squeezing the arch wire into place. This process is not required with the Damon System. Our patients, both adults and children alike, often remark wire changes are only slightly snug. We are proud to provide this technology for our Chula Vista, East Lake and South Bay San Diego patients!
Damon Braces are the beginning, but the system makes the smile.
Dr. Thomas has been a Certified Damon Braces Instructor, combining the following three key components, which when used together, enable fewer appointments, greater comfort, and consistent high-quality results:
1. Damon passive self-ligating braces – eliminates the need for elastic or metal “ties”. Experience treatment without tightening.
2. Light high-technology shape-memory wires
that move teeth faster and require fewer adjustments.
3. A new clinically proven treatment approach
that aligns your teeth and enhances your facial aesthetics with far fewer extractions and / or rapid palatal expanders.

Conventional braces on the left are tied in with elastics, which cause friction and pressure, making treatment slower and less comfortable. Damon braces use a slide mechanism to hold the wire, which allows teeth to move more freely, quickly and comfortably.

Damon braces are designed to be discreet, comfortable and easy to keep clean. Without the elastic ties which attract and collect plaque, Damon braces make dental hygiene easy during treatment. Check out our braces discount coupon for new patients!
